REV. RUDOLPH H. BOYCE, 74, a
member of the Detroit Conference and
former professor, died March 20 at Henry
Ford Hosp ital, Detroit. Boyce was born in
Paris , Tennessee, and was a residen t of
Detroit for 45 years. After serving several
church es in the Detroit area, he reti red in
1976. He had been a director of the
Wesley Foundation at Wayn e State
Rev . Rudol ph
H. Boyce
University from 1946-1949 while serving
as a speech instructor there . Memorial
services were held at the Verheyden
Funeral Home, Grosse Pointe Park, on
March 23 . Dr. Robert Horton, Rev. Arthur
E. Smith and Rev. Juanita Ferguson officiated . Survivors include his wife Martha;
a son , John R.; a daughter, Martha R.; two
grandchildren ; two sisters ; and a brother.
When the Rev. Rudolph .Boyce began his ministry at Embury, he was working in industry ancr
attending evening classes at Wayne State University.
Upon graduation, he attended Garrett Theological
Seminary, then returned to Detroit and started St.
Andrews and Aldersgate churches . He later founded
Wesley Foundation at Wayne State University, where
he received his M.A . degree and taught for five
years. Being one of the few ministers who has spent
his entire ministry in Metropolitan Detroit, he has
served Jefferson Avenue, and Greenfield, and
Lincoln Park First United Methodist Church. For
the past three years, he has been at Mount Hope
United Methodist Church in Detroit.
