JAMES C. BRAID
I was born in Pontiac, Michigan , to Carroll and Pauline Braid on
May 30 , 1933. I grew up in Waterford Township and graduated
from Pontiac H igh School in 1951 . My call to the ministry was
shaped by the fellowship I experienced at Central United Methodist Church, Pontiac, and by the
leadership of Milton Bank, Cecilia Learn Jordan, and John Mulder. My parents and grandparents were devout Christians and my great great grandfather, Charles Haines, was a Methodist Circuit Rider preacher in Oakland and Lapeer Counties. I graudated from Albion College in
1955 and from Boston University School of Theology in 1959 with a Master of Divinity degree.
I served three summers at Clarkston United Methodist Church while I was in se minary.
Judy Palmer, also of Pontiac, and I were married August 30, 1959. We have two children a nd two grandchildren. Our daughter Lynne and Steve and daughters Brittany and Paige
live in Linden. Steve is employed at Detroit Diesel. Our son Mike is Coordinator for Sports
Medicine at Hackley Hospital, Muskegon.
We have been grateful for the opportunity to serve the Detroit Conference at Detroit
Aldersgate, Cass City Trinity, Sanford, and Milford. Friends at each church have enriched our
life and helped us to grow in our faith . Judy has shared her talent for music with each congregation. I am grateful to her for her love a nd support along the way.
I have served as a Dean at Lake Huron Camp and on the Conference Board of Pensions
and Insurance . I have also served on the Port Huron, Saginaw Bay, and Ann Arbor District
Councils on Ministries and on the Ann Arbor District Board of Trustees.
I look forward to staying active in retirement. I enjoy running, biking, swimming, a nd
golf. I also look forward to joing the staff at First United Methodist Church, Fenton, on a part
time basis. Our address will be 1224 Pine Ridge Drive, Highland, MI 4835 7.
