REV. ETHAN BRAY, 78, of Lakeland,
Florida, died February 19 in Lakeland
General Hospital. He was born October
3 1893 in Cornwall, England, and marrled th'e former Miss Winifred Lavers on
August 10, 1923, in Chicago. A veteran
of World War I, he graduated from the
Moody Bible Institute, Chicago, in 1925,
and became a member in full connection
of the Detroit Annual Conference in 1929.
Mr. Bray served churches in Millersburg,
Turner, Pinconning, Saginaw Tuscola
Street, Croswell, and Port Huron Gratiot
Park where he was pastor from 1954
until his retirement in 1960. Survivors
include his widow; a daughter, Mrs. Darrell Holsteen, Glen Ellyn, Dlinois; two
sons, Rev. John W. Bray of Davison and
Chaplain William E. Bray of Atlanta,
Georgia; and 12 grandchildren. A memo.rial service was conducted at the Grat1ot
Park Church on F ebruary 23 by the pastor, Rev. Grant A. Washburn, with Rev.
William P . Schlitts, associate pastor of
Firs t Church, Port Huron, preaching.
Burial was in the Croswell Cemetery.
MRS. WINIFRED BRAY, age 91 , widow
of the late Rev. Etha.n__Bray_ died May 8
at the Chelsea Community Hospital. She
was a resident at the Chelsea Retirement
Home. She is survived by three children,
the Rev. John W. Bray, pastor of the
Beverly Hills UMC, the Rev. William Bray,
member of the Detroit Conference and
retired chaplain of the U.S. Navy of
Delmar, CA, and Mrs. Muriel Holsteen of
Glen Elyn, IL; 12 grandchildren and eight
great-grandchildren. Services were conducted by her son, John at the Croswell
UMC on May 12. Rev. Ethan Bray served
the Croswell church from 1948 to 1954.
