The Reverend Verle J. Carson of the Wesley United
Methodist Church in Warren entered into a retired relationship
with the Detroit Annual Conference of the United Methodist
Church at its recent meeting in Adrian Michigan.

The retire-

ment will be official as of December 31 of this year.
Rev . Carson began his min i stry at the East Grand Boulevard
United Me thodist Church in Detroit, a nd was recei v ed as a Full
Me mbe r in 1937.

He att e nde d public s chool in De troit, the Colle g e

of the City of Detroit (now Wayne State), and received his
Batchebr of Divinity degree from the Graduate School of Oberli n
College i n Oberlin, Ohio.
Previous to serving in Warre n , Rev . Carson serv e d churdles
in Alpena, Sa ult Ste. Marie, Ford Memorial and Thoburn in
Detroit, Newburg in Livonia, and churches i n Deerf i e ld , Clayton,
and Addison.

He has served on the Board of Tr ust ees, the

Lake Louise Christian Community, and Bd of Directors of the
Methodist Childre n' s Village.
Rev . Carson is married to the former Evelyn Esther Blue
of Bettsville, Ohio, and they have two daug hters, Mrs. Joan
Ann Cottrell, and Mrs. Merry Jean Pattison. The Carson's will
spend their s ummers at Lake Louise, Boyne Falls.

EVELYN E. CARSON, wife of Rev.
Verle J. Carson, died on May 12 at the
Lakeside (Florida) Regional Medical
Center. She had been seriously ill for the
last seven months . While born in Ohio,
Mrs . Carson lived most of her life in
Michigan until her husband's retirement
in 1974 when they moved to Lakeland,
Florida. They spent their summers at Lake
Louise. She met her husband at East
Grand Blvd. Methodist Church, Detroit,
and they were married on October 30,
1934, by the late Dr. Harvey Pearce.
Always active in her local church,
especially the UMW, she did find time to
work in the League of Women Voters at
Plymouth , Alpena, and Warren . Evelyn is
survived by her husband, daughter and
son-in-law, Joan and Lester Cottrell of
Cocoa, Florida, and daughter Dr. Merry
Jean Pattison, of Kalamazoo, Ml ; also by
two sisters, Oral Mae Thompson of La
Habra, CA, and Lucille Marvin of West
Bloomfield, Ml, and a brother Howard Blue
of Seattle , WA; and five grandsons. Services were held at College Heights UMC
