Meldon E. Crawford will retire at the 13hth session of the Detroit
Annual Conference to be held at Adrian College, Adrian Michigan June ] - 7, 1975.
He began his ministry by supplying two churches in the Thumb of Michigan --Owendale and Grant --- lolhile the pastor and his wife, Fred H. Tovmsend, traveled
to China to visit their daughter, Geraldine Tmmsend Fitch. Then, he attended
Albion College for four years, 1929 - 1933 and graduated with an A B degree.
The following year was spent at Garrett Biblical Institute in Evanston.
Then came a break in preparation for the ministry. He was appointed to
Clarenceville and Simpson churches for 193h- 1935 --- this being a short year
because the conference moved from a fall to an early summer time of meeting.
In 1935, he was appointed to Ishpeming:Salisbury, National Mine, and
Palmer churches, which he served for three years.
Dr. John Yeoman, District Superintendent, hired him to be an interim
Pastor at Republic, Nichigamme, and Champion for three months in 1938 until the
opening of the fall quarter at Garrett. With two years and one summer session,
he graduated in June, 1940 with a Bachelor of Divinity degree. And that summer
he was appointed to Hermansville, Faithorn, and the Hannahville Indian Mission
on the Marquette district.
Three years were spent at Hermansville. On August 10, 1940, he married
Marian Louise Grenfell, of Ishpeming, aaughter of Mr.and Mrs. James H. Grenfell.
1943 - 1946, he served Manistique, Engadine, and Trout Lake.
19n6 - 1952, he served Lake Linden, Allouez-Ahmeek, Mohawk, and Centennial.
1952 - September 196h, he was pastor at Gladstone • .
1964 - 1966, he served as associate pastor at Wayne.
1966 - 1970, pastor at First Methodist Church, Pigeon, Port Huron District.
1970 - 1972, pastor at Vernon.
1973 - 1975, pastor at Vernon and Bancroft.
Mr. Crawford has served on various committees of District and Conference.

He served on the Board of education as chairman of Adult Work for the conference.
He served f or serveal years on the Board of Christian Social Concerns. He s erved
f ifteen years as a trustee of the Extension Fund of the Conference. He served
twenty-three years at senior camp at Michi gamme; three years in Junior Hi gh Camp;
and three years :in Junior Camp.
He worked in the Lake Linden-Hubbell Lions Club and was King Lion in 1949.
He was a member of Rotary in Gladstone. He was V.J orshipful Master of the l'iasonic
Lodge, No. 396, at Gladstone in 1962; Chaplain of the Masonic Lodge at Pi geon;
Worshipful Master of the Vernon Lodge, No. 279 in 1972, and is presently the
Chaplain of the Vernon
Lo~ge.
The Crawford 's have two adopted children, David James, who lives at the
Redwood Estat es, Saginaw, and Mary Louise Smith (Mrs. i1ichael Smith), \-lho resides
at Swartz Creek.

Rev. Meldon E. Crawford retired at the Detroit Annual Conference sessions
of the United Methodist Church held at Adrian College, Adrian , Michigan, June
4-7, 1975 .
Rev . Crawford has been serving the United Methodist Church at
Vernon, Michigan
since 1970 .
The Rev. Mr . Crawford was Receive d on Trial in the Detroit Conference
in 1938 and in full connection in 1941.
During his years of service, Mr.
crawford served churches in Clarenceville- Simpson, Salisbury , National Mine
and Palmer (Ishpemin g ); He rmansville , Faithorn, Cunard; Manistique, Engadine,
Trout Lake; Lake Linde n, and Mohawk Parish; Gladstone; Wayne (Associate) First
church-Pigeon; Vernon- Bancroft .
While serving Vernon church , Rev . Crawford served . as Chaplain of Masonic
Lodge #279.
He was married to Marian Louise Grenfell of Ishpeming, Michigan,
the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. James H. Grenfell.
They have two children, David
James and May Louise.
Rev . Crawford graduated from the High School at Memphis , Michigan in 1928.
He attended Albion College, graduating in 19 33 with the degree of Bachelor of

Arts.
He attended Garrett Theological Seminary in Evanston , Illinois graduating
in ]940 with the degree of Bachelor of Divinity.
After his retirement, Rev . Drawford will be living in his home at 413
clinton St. , Vernon, Michigan .
