was born in 1913 i n Michigan and has lived
here conti nuousl y , except for schooling and
as chapl ai n i n the u.s. Marines . Since 1933
he has served churches in Lansing , Flint ,
Cass River Ci rcuit, St. Charl es (16 years ),
Romeo .
\Vhen church campi ng was just getting s t arted ? he served i n var i ed capaci t i es, including dean at t he Lake Louise site. Among the
Di strict and Conference r esponsibi lities, he
has served on t he Camp Co mmissions , Board of
Education, Vice- President of Board of Missi ons .
Charl es and Marian will have thei r young
adult daughter, Ruth Ann, l iving with them.
The parents of Mr. Dibl cy 9 t he Rev. and
Mrs. J oseph Dibley , ar e ret ired and live in
East Tawas.

s topped clear of the tracks. When t he
wind died down momentarily he saw he
wa s on the tracks, had no tract ion,
a nd cou ld not g et his ca r star ted to
clear the a pproaching train. Both he
a nd his pass enger ju mped out of the car
and were a bout 25 feet f r om his car, a
new one, when it wa s struck a nd demolis hed. Mr. Dibley sa ys, "They tell me if
the ca t· had been t hree fee t f rom wh er e
it was, the tra in would have mi ss ed it .

retired member of the Detroit Conference,
died December 8 ,1979 , in Saginaw. A na tive
of Unionville, he served churches in Flint,
Caro , Onawa y, St. C ha rles, Romeo, and
Belleville. After reti rement in 1973 he served
a s associa te minister a t Bay City First
United Methodist Church, where he was
named pastor emeritus in I 976. He had also
served a s a cha pla in in the Ma rine Corps at
the end of WW II. Survivors include his
wife, Ma rion; a son, Joseph of Richmond; a
da ug hter, Ruth Ann Frederick of Cadilla c;
three g ra ndchildren; his father, Rev . Joseph
Dibley of Ta wa s, a ret iree member o f the
Detroit Conference; a nd a sister, Mrs.
MaPga ret ' T hurston of Amberg, Wisconsin.
Services \vere held on December 11 at the
Tawas United Methodist C hurch with Revs.
Kenneth Tousley and Eric Hammar officiating . Burial wa s in Evergreen Cemetery,

a Tiger-Yankee game , fo r the church

which the Methodist Men hold on Labor
Da y during the Romeo Peach F es tival.
The men cooked and s erved lunch
throughout the day. Pies for dessert
a r e donated by the women of the ch urch.
