included decades of duty in his nat:ive Michigan - interspersed with

St. Joseph Hospital in Ann Arbor

congregations in Michigan. He also
went on overseas assignments, ineluding an assessment of the problems of Bangladesh with a n interdenominational committee. While in
India, the assignment led him to a n
interview with Mrs. Ghandi in the
garden of her home.
In t980, he was named editor of
the Advocate, a stewardship marked
by a mix of loca! a n-4, nat ione.l news
and features. It is a Cle~m newspaper
style, unlike other denomination
publications that read more like
church bull('tin boards than newspapers.
Mr. Doten is survived by his wife,
Dorothy; his father, the Rev. Alvin
Doten; a daughter, Dianne Lee
Morrison; a son, Donn Dale; and two
,
grandchildren.
Memorial sevices wili be held at 5
p.m. May 2 in University United
Methodist Church in East Lansing.
