TROY 0. DOUTHIT

One of six children, I was born on the Detroit Eastside, September 10, 1935. My father
was a city policeman and mother was a seamstress for Federal Department Stores. Except for a
brief period on a farm in Macomb County, Detroit was home until graduation from Southeastern
High School. I was drafted into the military in 1954, where, following basic training, I spent two
years in Berlin, Germany.
I married Diane in 1958, and four children, Virginia, Candace, Todd and Martha quickly
followed. I attended Central Michigan, graduating in 1963. I completed Garrett Theological
Seminary in 1966. Now retirement will provide time for grandchildren Andrea, Nichole, Christian
and Lindsey.
Assignments include a career in the military chaplaincy, and the following additional
appointments: Memphis and Lamb, 1959; Gordonville, 1961; Bancroft and Pittsburg, 1963;
Good Shepherd St. Clair Shores, 1967; Aldersgate, Redford (Assoc.), 1988; and Lincoln Park
First (1990). The most influential person in vocational decisions was the late Reverend Leslie
Culver.
I have been blessed by friends who have stood beside me; graced with a calling which was
continuously challenging; gifted with a wife, Diane, and children, who supported me when
demands on time were severe and they would have wished for me to be more available. I am
grateful to God for labor which has made life full and good.
I know no one who is able to see down the road named tomorrow very far. Nor can I. I am
however, leaning into the future with confidence and great optimism. I will "keep the faith" in
Hopkinsville, Kentucky.
