Samuel Graves
Funeral services were held in the Linden Methodist church on March 1, at 2:00 P.M. for Rev. Samuel Graves, 95, oldest retired preacher in the Detroit Conference. Dr. Arthur D. Klontz, superintendent of the Flint District, gave the sermon. Assisting in the service were Rev. George R. Millard and Rev. G.F. Edgerton of Linden; Rev. Etsel Stubbs of Keego Harbor; and Rev. U.G. Ostrander of Juddville. Burial was in the Linden cemetery.
Mr. Graves was admitted into the Detroit Conference on trial in 1889 and was taken into full membership in 1891. He spent 27 years in the Methodist ministry serving the following charges, all of which were within 30 miles of Linden: Hartland, Seymour Lake, Clyde, Judd's Corners, Oak Grove, Morrice, Swartz Creek, Byron, Mt. Morris, and Linden.
He had resided in Linden since his retirement in 1920.
