Dr. H. Addis Leeson
Dr. H. Addis Leeson, 92, retired member of the Detroit Conference, died February 25, 1964 at the Rest Haven Convalescent Home in Flint. He was born on a farm near Manchester, March 17, 1871, the son of Henry and Iretta Gillett Leeson. He was an 1896 graduate of Albion College which later awarded him an honorary D.D. degree. He married Anna Belle Baird at Holland in August of 1896.
Dr. Leeson attended Boston University School of Theology and began his ministry in 1897 at Fairfield and Palmyra. Using a horse and buggy, he served the two Lenawee County communities by traveling between them on Sundays for morning, afternoon and evening services. Other churches served include Laurium, Caro, Mt. Clemens, Ypsilanti, Detroit Mary Palmer, Detroit Wesley, Dearborn, Farmington, and Flint Trinity. He also served as superintendent of the Marquette and Flint districts. In 1934 Dr. Leeson was appointed superintendent of the Chelsea Methodist Home, a position he held until his retirement in 1940. After retirement, he and Mrs. Leeson lived in Ann Arbor. Mrs. Leeson died in 1946.
For the last six years Dr. Leeson had made his home with his son Louis Leeson in Flint. Other survivors are a daughter, Mrs. Lilian Daiell of Milwaukee, Wis.; a granddaughter, Mrs. Barbara Alsmeyer of Champaign, Ill.; a great-grandson, Eric Alsmeyer of Champaign; and a sister, Mrs. Emma Fitch of New Sharon, Maine.
Funeral services were held February 27 at 10 a.m. in Trinity Methodist Church, Flint, with Rev. William G. Wager and Dr. Howard Burden officiating. Ministers of the Flint District served as pallbearers. Burial took place the same afternoon in the Manchester cemetery.
