Despite Reverend Parker's long career as a Detroit Conference minister, no memoir of his career appears in its published journals. This may be due to his eventual withdrawal from Conference membership. The following information has been compiled by the Archives staff from other sources:

Henry Oswald Parker was born to Eliada Parker and his wife Elizabeth Oswald on February 7, 1829 at Lexington, Greene, New York. He married Jane Elizabeth Hough in 1852 and joined the Michigan Conference in 1854. He was appointed to the Fort Gratiot church in that year and Lakeport in 1855. Upon the creation of the Detroit Conference in 1856, he spent another year at Lakeport. Subsequent appointments were Marquette (1857 & 1858), Minnesota Mine (1859 & 1860), East Saginaw (1861 & 1862), Bay City (1863), Howell (1864 to 1866), Port Huron (1867 to 1869), Fenton (1870 & 1871), Wyandotte (1872 & 1873), Birmingham (1874 to 1876), Wayne (1877 &1878), Fowlerville (1879 & 1880), Corunna (1881), Oxford (1882 & 1883), Rochester (1884), and as Chaplain in the Ionia House of Corrections (1885). He did not serve any subsequent appointments and withdrew from Conference membership in 1888. In the 1900 census of Detroit, his occupation is listed as insurance agent. He died at Detroit on September 8, 1903 and was buried in Woodmere Cemetery. His wife Jane (1834-1907) is also buried there.
