James Henry Potts

James Henry Potts was born on a Canadian farm, one of a family of ten children, where as a young child he became an earnest follower of Jesus Christ. As a boy of nine, he moved to "the States," lived on the farm and attended rural schools. At sixteen years he began teaching school, and later he became a soldier in the Civil War.

He joined the Michigan Conference and served a few years as pastor. Then shortly after the launching of the Michigan Christian Advocate, he was called to its editorship. Under his leadership the paper grew tremendously in volume and reputation. He continued this outstanding work for forty years.

His wife, Lonnie, preceded him by many years to the life beyond. Two children died in childhood. Three remain: Florence A. Potts of Algonac, J. Riston Potts of Algonac, and Mrs. P.B. Ross of Detroit. Since his retirement, he was a most loved figure in Algonac where he resided with his daughter.
