Rev. Walter Cloyd Briney Saxman
Walter Cloyd Briney Saxman was born July 6, 1907, in Wilkonsburg, Pennsylvania to Cloyd and Bertha Briney Saxman. He graduated from Albion College, the University of Michigan, the University of Chicago, and Garrett Evangelical Theological Seminary. He married Ruth Maze who preceded him in death after 70 years of marriage.
Walter served churches in Willis, Stoney Creek, Tecumseh, Saline, Hudson, Clarkston, Sault Sainte Marie: Central, Flint: Calvary, and Trenton: First. He was the oldest surviving United Methodist Minister in the Detroit Conference receiving the honor to have custody of the Conference Cane in October 1998.
He died February 26, 2002, at Chelsea Retirement Community at age 94. He is survived by his daughter, Phyllis (Richard) Holman and son, David (Sandra) Saxman. A memorial service was held March 9, 2002, at Chelsea Retirement Community Chapel with Rev. Karen Mars and Rev. Richard Dake officiating.
